As of 2019, the FBI reported the theft of automobiles, trucks, buses, motorcycles, scooters, snowmobiles and other vehicles in its definition of motor vehicle theft. About $7 Billion was lost from the reported automobiles above. One of the most alarming things was how many people left their keys inside their vehicles, most crimes take place on major holidays such as Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Memorial Day. although the theft rates have been slowly declining in recent years, the more educated you are the less likely you are to becoming a target. There are things you can do to educate yourself so you don’t fall victim to thefts.
- Lock your doors anytime you are not physically occupying your automobile it makes it harder for a break in to happen if the automobile is locked.
- Installing a car alarm is another safeguard when your car alarm does off it sends a message to the thief and they tend to run from the vehicle and no thief wants to be risked getting caught!
- Hiding valuables is another thing if valuables like phone, wallet, computers are left in the open it easily makes the thief target your vehicle more approachable. Putting things in the glove box department or in the trunk is out of reach and not visible to a thief.
